SILO Piraeus: Powering a New Chapter in Industrial Heritage

A&G Powering Construction contributes to the transformation of Piraeus’ historic SILO into the National Museum of Underwater Antiquities, helping bring a new cultural landmark to life.

When industrial heritage meets modern technology, a new chapter begins.

Located on the waterfront of Piraeus, the historic SILO stands as a distinctive reminder of the city’s industrial past. Today, this landmark complex is undergoing a major architectural transformation as it is repurposed to accommodate Greece’s new National Museum of Underwater Antiquities.

The development combines the adaptive reuse of the existing industrial structure with the construction of a new extension, creating a contemporary museum complex with a total floor area of approximately 26,380 sq.m.

The project seeks to preserve the SILO’s industrial identity while introducing the infrastructure and technology required to support a modern cultural institution.

A&G’s Role in the Project

As part of this major development, A&G Powering Construction is responsible for a significant scope of electrical installation works across both the historic structure and the new extension.

Our scope of work includes:

  • Electrical installations throughout the existing building and the new facilities.
  • Installation of electrical substations and low-voltage distribution switchboards.
  • Installation of audio systems to support the museum’s operational requirements.
  • Architectural lighting installations, including discreet illumination of the historic cranes within the surrounding site.

Integrating modern electrical systems into an existing industrial complex requires specialist technical expertise, careful coordination, and a thorough understanding of the building’s architectural characteristics.

Our work focuses on delivering reliable, functional electrical infrastructure that supports the museum’s operational needs while respecting the distinctive identity of the historic structure.

From Industrial Infrastructure to Cultural Landmark

The transformation of the SILO is an example of adaptive reuse, an architectural approach that gives existing buildings a new purpose while retaining important elements of their original character.

In this context, modern building services and electrical infrastructure play an essential role in enabling the transition from an industrial facility to a contemporary cultural destination.

Once completed, the museum is expected to become an important cultural landmark, showcasing Greece’s underwater archaeological heritage and contributing to the wider regeneration of Piraeus.

Continuing Our Contribution to the Transformation of Piraeus

A&G’s involvement in the SILO development builds on our experience in other landmark projects that are reshaping the city’s architectural landscape.

Following our contribution to the electrical installations of the renovated Piraeus Tower, we continue to support developments that combine technical complexity, architectural significance, and urban regeneration.

At A&G Powering Construction, projects of this nature reflect our commitment to delivering specialist engineering solutions and contributing to infrastructure designed to create lasting value.

Because progress does not always mean leaving the past behind. Sometimes, it means giving it the power to become part of the future.
